Champion Cow at Carlisle |
| Owain Llyr was privileged to be the finished cow judge at the Christmas primestock sales at Carlisle, Newark and Wigton last week. Carlisle Champion Cow was awarded to a superb 6 y.o pure bred B.Blue cow sired by Danseur d'Embise weighing 920 kg from the Carrock herd. Reserve Champion was a 4 y.o pure bred B.Blue cow sired by Blak Du Baty d'Eprave. Owain backed his judgement & purchased these two outstanding cows. At Newark Owain purchased the only pure bred B.Blue prize winning cow offered for sale, an impressive 5 y.o sired by Ridge Dean Vanquish. At Wigton the Champion Cow was awarded to a 5 y.o pure bred B.Blue cow weighing 760 kg. Reserve Champion was a pure bred Limousin heifer sired by Cloughhead Umpire from the Haltcliffe herd. These two super animals were again purchased by Owain Llyr. |

| Pre-sale show champion at Welshpool was Wern Pacific, a shearling ram bred by Gwion Morgan and sired by Ardstewart Charles. Pacific sold for 1,050 gns to Bob Blandford, Eastnor, Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Gwion headed the ram lamb trade at 720gns with Wern Rambo a Van’t Ophoverveld King Kong son out of a Brickrow bred dam. Rambo sold to Y Edwards, Carmarthen for her Penbryn Parc flock.
Gwion also led the female section at 950gns with Wern Penny, a shearling by Wern Memphis and out of a Brickrow dam. The buyer was H Williams, Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire who also went to 800gns for another Wern shearling ewe, this time Wern Peaches by Clary King-Pin. |

| Brickhill Carol exhibited by DK Wheeler of the Rosecroft herd won the Senior Champion Female at the National Limousin Show held at Carlisle. Carol is a February 2007 born cow bred by Michael Gerard McInerney. Lino also sired Touraine RR, Female Champion National Limousin Show Limoges 2010 and Niscoise twice Paris Show Champion. | The proven stock bull Abricot has recently been imported by Owain Llyr & sold to Mrs S Lloyd Jones, Pant-y-Coed, Chwilog, N.Wales of the Garmon herd. Abricot was purchased from the renowned Rochard herd & is sired by Oculiste, a son of Highlander. At the SIMAGENA Paris Show in February 2011 a daughter of Abricot, Caline won overall champion at the prestigous butchers competition (vache de boucherie) & sold for €8,400. |

| Cromwell Fergus a February 2010 born British Blue bull has been sold in a private transaction for £15,000. Bred by AE Neachell & Son, Shrubbery Farm, Aldridge, Staffordshire. Fergus is sired by Bringlee Carlos, a Cajoleur son out of Lukeroyal Wee Beauty, a Serum daughter. This promising young bull has been sold by Owain Llyr on behalf of AE Neachell & Son to noted show calf producer Trefor Jones, Bodychain Uchaf, Caernarfon, N.Wales. |

| At the Ruthin Sale of Show Potential Cattle a 6 month old 7/8 bred Limousin heifer exhibited by BG & TE Griffiths, Penygelly, Kerry, Newtown, Powys was sold for the days second highest price of £4,700 to RK Kingston, Somerset. This super heifer was purchased as a cow & calf by Owain Llyr from Llandovery livestock market in September & subsequently sold to BG & TE Griffiths. |

| At the Brecon Sale of Show Potential Cattle the Championship was taken by Black Magic, a 7 1/2 month old Limousin x B.Blue heifer bred by DG & E Lewis, Cefncoedmawr, Pumpsaint, Carmarthenshire. Black Magic was sold for the days highest price of £3,200 to Michael Alford, Somerset. The heifer was sired by an imported Limousin sire. Owain Llyr sold this proven sire on behalf of DG & E Lewis to TM & E Williams, Nant y Geifr, Llanidloes, Powys last September. |

| Congratulations to KI & E & HI Jones, Bryn Ddraenen, Padog, Betws y Coed, N.Wales (Garnedd herd) on winning the best stock bull and best progeny award in the 2010 North Wales & West Midlands Limousin Herd Competition. Judging was Harry Emslie, Brae of Coynach, Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire. Their current stock bull ATTIRANT was purchased by Owain Llyr in August 2008 from France. He is bred by Earl Lagautriere (same breeder as VOLCAN). Five year old Attirant is sired by Usty a son of Neuf. The dam Superbe is sired by Mas du Clo. |
